The Casaveen Story
Welcome to Casaveen Knitwear.  We are Allan and Clare McShane and we’d like to share with you the story of Casaveen Knitwear Australia, the authentic Australian knitter.

Casaveen Knitwear is located in Oatlands, Tasmania and was born in 1989 as a hobby.  Over the last 20 years Casaveen has developed into a successful business that has survived wool crises and manufacturing industries that have either gone offshore or out of business. 

In the beginning.....
20 years ago, we were woolgrowers in the Midlands area of Tasmania at Casaveen, a 6,000 acre property, 26km north east of Oatlands and it was here that our love of wool and woollen knitwear began.  Our hobby was creating wonderful pieces of knitwear from the wool we grew and soon, this became our passion.  We were forced to make some big decisions.  With our absolute determination and passion for making great knitwear and knowing we had a great team and could produce wonderful products we decided to specialize in the manufacturing of our own quality Australian woolen knitwear.  Then, everything changed with the dramatic fall in the wool market in the early 1990’s.  Through years of drought, mill and machinery closures, the change from cottage industry to real manufacturing wasn’t easy.  The wool industry continued to decline and manufacturing in Australia was getting tougher for everyone.  With great persistence and a strong belief in what we were doing we kept going.  We looked to expand the business and we built a stylish café, developed an interpretation centre with tours of our factory to tell the story of our district, our heritage and of our wool... and our customers love it.

Customers are fascinated to see the machines working, skilled staff putting all the pieces together, vibrant colours and unique styles of the knitwear, and you can too.  You are able to meet the woolgrower and the designers, ask them questions and give them your feedback.  Sitting in the café enjoying the food & wine, it becomes the “Casaveen experience” and is what we do so well.

Our customers love our great knitwear, custom knitted in any colour and style, personally made, just for them and it is all done here, by us, and you will love it too.

In an ever changing world Casaveen has created a unique position in the textiles industry and has diversified to incorporate wool knitwear manufacturing, hospitality and tourism.  All of this in a small working village in Oatlands, in the centre of Tasmania!

Not only has Casaveen developed its unique brand of industrial tourism, it is the only company that offers a custom knit service in wool knitwear you can get for a single customer.

All our manufacturing is still completed in Oatlands, Tasmania so the “Made Here By Us” logo is most relevant to our wool products.

Almost all garments in our range are available in any combination of our sizing and in your choice of any colour and style.

Our Café and Gift Pantry
We have at Oatlands, not only the history, after all it’s a total heritage precinct, we also have our Café and Gift Pantry.

Casaveen is set in stunning surroundings with a beautiful courtyard and garden with plenty of off street parking that includes disabled facilities.  You can enjoy a fabulous coffee, glorious morning or afternoon tea or a luscious lunch. You may want to sip a glass of Tasmanian wine or beer or maybe just a hot chocolate.

Our Café offers an ever changing range of specials as well as our set menu.

We use Tasmanian produce and our Gift Pantry stocks only Tasmanian food and wine products which are perfect gifts for our local or travelling customers.

Meeting Room and Conference Facilities
As Oatlands is the nearest town to the centre point between Hobart and Launceston, in 2008 we decided to incorporate a meeting room.

Our boutique size meeting room is perfect for groups of up to 15 people complete with full conference facilities including a data projector, flip chart, whiteboard and DVD player.  We can offer you catering from our special Meeting Room menu or you can order from our daily Café menu.

After your coffee, why not come in and see what we have in our showroom.

Our stock changes constantly and, being on site, it has the largest range of Casaveen wool clothing anywhere in the world.
You may even see some new styles that have just been released as we display them here before they are shown anywhere else.

Factory Tours
We have free tours of the factory and the Interpretation Centre so you can see the workings of a real woollen knitting mill.

Hear the history of wool in the local district and the many generations of McShane’s in Tasmania. After all, we’ve been here since 1818!
